Update on Fulton’s Haircut

Dear Praying Friend,

A few weeks ago, I shared with you my frustration with Fulton. He absolutely refused to get a haircut or have his beard trimmed. We had our big standoff at the beauty shop. I was so upset at the time, I thought about this for quite some time. He was disrespecting me in front of others. I didn’t like it. But God showed me He wanted me to cut Fulton some slack.

There are very few choices he’s able to make. He wanted the freedom to make his own decision and I was making too big of a deal about it. Who really cares about the length of his hair or beard? I needed to lighten up and give him as much freedom as possible.

A couple of days ago we took him to the beautician again. We had compromised. Fulton had promised he would allow his beard to be trimmed for health reasons and I would allow him to leave his hair long. When we arrived at the beauty shop, his favorite beautician happened to be the one to take him. I explained to her what had been going on. Sure enough, she worked her magic. I stayed out of it as she gently persuaded him to allow his hair to be trimmed, along with his beard.

It took someone other than me to do what was best for him. Sometimes others can help me do what needs to be done, without all the hassle. I had to smile as we left the beautician. God had stepped in to help both Fulton and me. God is good. He continues to teach us for His own glory.

Your Friend,

Dawson

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this event Dawson. It is such a normal occurance with all boys, and girls as well, and their parents. Choosing our battles is sometimes difficult. And having others get the results we wanted in the first place can be discomforting. Recognizing that God can handle all of these things is what makes our walk with Him so exciting. Blessings to you and your family. Merry Christmas! Jesus has come and will come again!
