There’s a verse in the book of James that is extremely helpful in understanding our relationship with God. “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” (James 1:17) James tells us, if you receive a gift that is truly good, you can rest assure that gift is from God. The gift and the giver are both good; therefore, it is from God.
I was reminded once again of this eternal truth this Christmas. My son, Gene, Fulton’s younger brother went online and bought some athletic shoes for Fulton. These shoes weren’t just any shoes, they were designed specifically for the University of Alabama fans. Fulton loves Alabama football! You should have seen the look on his face when his younger brother opened the box and there they were! Gene put the shoes on Fulton and then gave him a big hug.
Those shoes are now the talk of the nursing home. Seems everyone has come to see them and gotten all excited about them too. The gift was good. It came from the heart of Gene, prompted by God’s love. I left the nursing home, joyfully saying to myself, “If it’s a gift, if it’s good, it’s from God.”
