Isaiah 62:5

We celebrated my wife’s birthday last Saturday. We always do our parties at the nursing home so Fulton can be there. I wondered how he would do since he had just left the hospital a week or so ago. I was blown away by how good and alert he looked. I found myself just looking at him, amazed at how well he was doing. He had great color, laughed a lot, and had more stamina than I’d seen in a long time. I was so proud of him, I kept looking at him, blown away by his progress.

He refused to give up the fight. He has suffered greatly but now he can be proud of the way he lived at the hospital. Several doctors and staff at the hospital said to me at different times, your son has really suffered. He did but it has helped him prepare for the next challenge that surely will come his way.

Me being proud of my son got me thinking of how proud God is of us, as we work our way through hard times. It’s like He just looks at us and smiles, proud of the way we have grown to be more like Him.

I came across a powerful verse that speaks of God’s love for us, “For as a young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you; and as a groom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.” (Isaiah 62:5)

I love my son! Yes, he’s broken but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s still my son. So, here we are, God’s children. By His grace, may we give Him more to be proud about than ever before.

Your Friend,

  4. Your words came in a timely fashion. Living victoriously has been a struggle today, but God has been gracious to remind me through two pair of eagles…it’s always a surprise as to what he uses to encourage us…that there is a struggle in life at times…a struggle to focus on what is good and right in His eyes, a struggle to persevere, a struggle to be vigilant…you get the picture. Then I am reminded that our struggle is not against flesh and blood…but against the spiritual forces in the heavenly places. God wins and so do we as His children. I praise the Lord with you for all He has accomplished in your family and mine as well. He takes care of us well. Blessings to you and yours.
