Jeremiah 31:3

I Just Love Him

Dear Praying Friend,

The most powerful promise we can make to our children is for them to know, nothing they can do or fail to do, will keep us from loving them. I remember telling Fulton those very words, just weeks before his accident. I was deeply disturbed over the kind of choices he was making but was powerless to stop him. His choices not only affected him but those of us around him. I guess I could blame him for a lot of my hurt but what good would it do? I’m commanded to love him unconditionally whether I feel like it or not.

Recently, when I was visiting Fulton, I got up to leave and looked at his twisted body once again. As I was leaving, I said to myself, “I just love that boy and I can’t help it! I just love him. Through all of his screw-ups and chaos brought into our lives, I still just love him.” That’s the way God is. He just loves us, no conditions. There’s nothing we can do to stop Him from loving us. That doesn’t mean there won’t be negative consequences to our rebellious actions but in the midst of it all, He still loves us. He said in Jeremiah 31:3, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Now, there’s a promise we can live and die by! He just loves us, that’s all and always will!

Your Friend,

Dawson
