Psalm 40:5

Connecting with Friends From the Past

God is full of love and He shows it in many different ways, more ways than we could ever imagine. David wrote, “O LORD my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.” (Psalm 40:5)

God allowed something very special in my life the other night. Our ministry hosted a prayer conference call, where our donors call in for a special night of prayer. It’s truly a powerful event. A half hour before it started, Al Denson, a nationally known praise leader, called in. It was a complete surprise! Al and I toured together back in the 80’s and 90’s. What a ministry we had! There he was supporting us after all these years.

I got an idea. I asked Al if he would sing a praise song that we did many years ago. He sang acapella, a simple little chorus we used to do at our conferences. The lyrics went:

He paid a debt he did not owe
I owed a debt I could not pay
I needed someone to wash my sins away
And now I sing a brand new song
Amazing Grace
Christ Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay

It was awesome! Even though Al was singing from his car and people were online from all over the country, it came through beautifully. Only God could have orchestrated something like that. It really encouraged me!

That experience got me thinking about Fulton. If God would send to him some of his old friends, from even 20 years ago, what a blessing that would be. I want to encourage you to try to contact friends from the past. You will be encouraged. Al Denson sure did encourage me. Just a little gift from God but beautiful nonetheless. Thanks Al!

Here’s a video of Al singing, Take Me to the Cross:

  1. Dear Dawson, What encouragement God has given you through your old friend Al. It was great to have him sing and be part of the prayer call!
I praise you Lord for the countless times you have blessed Dawson in OH SO many ways. You are SO good to those who love you, and I thank you for bringing Al back into Dawson’s life to encourage and lift his spirit! Thank you for song and music that helps bring us joy and praise!! Our good Father, please stir the hearts of Fultons childhood classmates and friends, to do what you have done for Dawson. Remove any obstacles that are preventing them from reaching out to Fulton, fear, busyness, or guilt from not reaching out before. May Fulton be showered with love and kindness during during your celebrated season of Thanksgiving and Christmas. We thank you in advance for answering Dawsons prayers for Fulton and the wonders that will be witnessed by all! In Jesus name, AMEN!

  2. Hi Dawson, I was so encouraged being on the call with you and your team and supporters. It was a special time, and I was thrilled to hear of the numbers of teens and young adults participating with DMA. We all know the need is still overwhelming, and the call emphasized what an army we are, and how God is bigger than the problem. I was especially blessed too, and did not realize that it was Al Denson on the call until towards the end (I was having some trouble hearing many parts of the call). Al is one of my favorite Christian artists. His song “Be” was and still is a great inspiration for my walk with God and my work with youth. Thank you for all your ministry team is and does, and may grace and blessings abound at this holiday season and for 2020.

  3. It was a difficult week at work. Your message just eased the pain. I wish people knew Christ and their hearts were made new. The women at work who is so unruly, and mean, claims to be an atheist. I never talk with her, she is scary. I pray all the time for comfort while on the job. Someday I will see things more clearly, but for now all I can seem to concentrate on is hanging onto the Lord.

  4. Dawson,

I was able to partake in yours and Al’s ministries as a teen. What a blessing you both have been in my life all of these years! Praying that Fulton is encouraged by some old friends soon!

  5. Dawson,

Since meeting you at at West Acres Mall in Fargo, ND, in the early 2000’s, I have considered you my friend. Your dedication to God’s call to help youth is admirable. You have helped me more than you know.

May the good Lord continue to bless you, your family, and the ministry,

    Jim Nypen
